Strengthening classical music ties between Ireland and the USA.
The Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) is a dynamic music conservatoire based in Westland Row, Dublin. Founded in 1848, it is Ireland’s oldest music institution and has been advancing music education and training for over 170 years, bringing the joy of music into the lives of over one million students.
1,500 young people, from the age of four upwards, attend the RIAM every week for their classes. In addition, 150 graduate and postgraduate students are training for a profession in music and RIAM graduates represent themselves with distinction on stages all over the world. The RIAM’s reach further extends to over 43,000 music students and almost 7,000 teachers throughout the 32 counties of Ireland through its teaching network.
The RIAM’s American charitable supporter (the RIAM Foundation, Inc.) was established to support the Royal Irish Academy of Music in continuing to deliver the greatest possible opportunities for musical learning and performance. Thanks to the support of its American Friends, the Royal Irish Academy of Music can offer scholarships to both US-born students and Irish-born students. American Friends of RIAM are also making a magnificent contribution to the redevelopment project for the RIAM’s Dublin home.
The RIAM Foundation, Inc. - a U.S. organization with 501 (c)(3) status - was established with the following objectives:
To strengthen classical music ties between Ireland and the USA.
To encourage a systematic approach to music education at the elementary, middle, high school, college and graduate levels.
To improve access to the highest standards of training in music.
To promote the strategic plans of the Royal Irish Academy of Music and others in achieving the above goals.
